Visa for Faculty Members and Researchers

A visa(status of stay) refers to the authorization that allows a foreign national to enter and reside in Korea. Faculty members or researchers who plan to stay in Korea for more than 90 days for teaching or research activities at Sogang University must obtain a a Professor (E-1) visa, a Researcher (E-3) visa or another type of visa allowing these activities.

For stays of 90 days or less, entry with a Short-Term Employment Visa (C-4) is permitted.
If you are currently working at another university or research institute in Korea under an E-1 or E-3 visa and transfer your affiliation to Sogang University, you must report this change of workplace to the Immigration Office within 15 days of the change.

Visa Support Eligibility and Scope

The Office of International Student Affairs provides visa issuance support for full-time and part-time faculty members and researchers who are officially appointed through the Office of Academic Affairs or the Office of Research Affairs and are required to stay in Korea for more than 90 days. Before the faculty member or researcher applies for a visa at a Korean embassy or consulate, the university assists with issuing the “Confirmation of Visa Issuance(CVI)”, which is required for the visa application process.

Researcher (E-3) Visa

Required Documents for Applying for a Confirmation of Visa Issuance (E-3)

  • 2Valid Passport
  • 3Color Photo (3.5cm × 4.5cm, white Background, taken within the last 6 months)
  • 4Master’s Degree (or higher) Certificate(Diploma) or Certificate of Graduation
  • 5Certificate(s) of Employment or Career Verification
    - If submitting a degree other than a Ph.D.(e.g., Master’s), you must also provide documentation proving at least 3 years of work experience in a related field.
